Total engineering for extreme spin
The Mizuno S23 is comprehensively engineered to generate extreme backspin , combining the precision and playing profile of a player wedge blade with the aggressive performance of a toe-weighted design.
A shorter hosel and a heel-oriented cavity allow more mass to be moved toward the toe, bringing the sweet spot closer to the center (rather than toward the heel like in traditional wedges).
This centralization of the sweet spot increases contact time with the ball, reduces head deflection at impact and generates higher and more consistent spin , both on full and partial shots.
It's all completed with the unmistakable Mizuno feel , thanks to the one-piece Grain Flow Forged construction.
The philosophy behind spin
“That check and spin you see from the pros isn't just a result of newer grooves—most players don't have the consistency to consistently hit them. For the vast majority, a centralized sweet spot is much easier to hit and repeat.”
David Llewellyn – Director of R&D, Mizuno
Main features
Forged in Hiroshima, Japan
Made using the One-Piece Grain Flow Forged HD process in the historic Mizuno factory in Hiroshima, where Mizuno irons have been produced since 1968.
Uncompromising craftsmanship.
Spin Central
The weight shifted toward the toe creates a more central sweet spot , promoting a more consistent impact and high, repeatable spin numbers .
Tour-Ready Design
The partial cavity on the heel and the shortened hosel centralize the sweet spot while maintaining a compact, clean and highly versatile look at address , exactly what expert players demand.
Specific profile for each loft
Each loft is individually designed:
-
The strongest lofts feature a straight drop edge
-
Higher lofts (lob wedges) evolve into a more rounded shape
-
Specific grinds to suit different playing conditions and swing styles
High performance even on wet surfaces
Laser-etched HydroFlow Micro Grooves help wick away moisture and reduce spin loss in wet conditions.
Precise and more durable grooves
The Quad Cut Milled grooves, specific to each loft, are milled on 1025 boron carbon steel , ensuring:
-
Maximum precision
-
Increased wear resistance
-
Consistent performance over time
Two premium finishes
Available in:
-
White Satin Brush Chrome – classic, elegant and shimmer-free
-
Copper Cobalt – a distinctive and refined look for those who want something unique
The choice is purely aesthetic: the performance remains identical.
The Tour's opinion
“The S23 is one of those surprising products: it wasn't designed for the Tour, but it has established itself. Aside from players with world-class short games, many pros gain better spin control thanks to the centralized sweet spot.”
Jeff Cook – PGA Tour Operations
